i luv meeee horror

i've been in a horror tear of late. i guess its the end of summer and the beginning of fall. which means a little colder weather and more movie watching.
here are a couple of reviews of some flicks i watched recently.

1.) The Red Room (no IMDB listing as of yet)

you want underground mofo? this is it. straight from the motherland of sick shit...Japan. holy depravity batman! let's start off by saying this flick had no english subs, no dubbed version...just straight Japanese language. so this negates what i know of the real plot. the movie starts off with an extreme closeup of 2 women french kissing while a guy watches and you know what. anyway 4 people (3 girls and a guy) are trapped in a "red room" and seemingly are talking, arguing and playing a card game. the game consists of 4 cards 3 of which are numbered 1,2, and 3 and the 4th has a crown on it. they each pick a card. the person who selects the crown card gets to order 2 participants to do very sexual and depraved shit to each other. this is where we enter guineau pig territory.

a woman is twirled on a chair until she blows chunks, a man has a hair dryer inserted into his mouth and hot air blows into his brain, the man inserts a screwdriver and bulb into a woman's ummm...well you know. guy beats ths crap out of a woman and then rapes her. mr. wang gets separated from mr. rapist guy. and more fucked up shit then imaginably possible.

downright disturbing. totally fucked up. sicko perverted atrocities. the insanity of a movie with no morals. lowest common denominator appeal. underground, bootleg, cancerous disgusting. this is it. guinea pig is still the pinnacle but red room has its moments.

2.) Nightmare City AKA CIty of the Walking Dead

That damn Lenzi! Umberto Lenzi (Cannibal Ferox) directs his version a zombie film. He does separate his zombies from Fulci's and Romero's. His zombies (due to atomic radiation) have come to a small town in Italy and started to attach the city. Only a bulle tin the head can kill them. Lenzi's zombies can use machine guns, knives, forks, spoons, etc. They run, jump, sprint, due jigsaw puzzles. Not your typical zombies. Cross b/w Versus and Zombie. Good Stuff. standard gore. ripped necks and stomachs, gunshot wounds, explosions, ocular trauma, etc. Lenzi's ending is a little contrived....somehow he was stressing some sort of Toxic Avenger message. oh you Lenzi...you silly goose!

3.) The Church

ok i thought this would be awesome. billed as Demons 3, directed by Michele Soavi (Cemetary Man), produced by Dario Argento. this has to good ole Italian giallo. instead its Italian jello. really slow. really boring. no chills. no frights. no sense of direction. i'll forgive soavi as this was before Cemetary Man. story revolves around a church that was built on top of slaughtered corpses (they were killed by crusading knights who thought they were demons). librarian and an artist due some investigating. a priest reveals the church's secret. duller than watching CBS. a very young 14 or 15 year old Asia Argento also stars as the standard kid who is way smarter than old people.

i hate when stuff i like gets mainstream. ring is being made into an american remake. takashi miike will be a household name in no time. i need the underground.

leftover thoughts (pun intended)

also on a sidenote. US loss to Argentina in the World Championships. pathetic NBA "C" level stars. you should be ashamed!
mets lost 15 in a row @ home. seems they went on strike early.
i'm ashamed to admit. but ill patch the 1st episode of birds of prey.
i watched blade 2. it was damn good! snipes was pretty neo-like cool in it. FX not too chabby. plot was very perplexing but uber fantastic.
you'll be hearing about a Larry Clark flick called "Ken Park" pretty soon. yes underage drinking and teenage sex. but this time a Filipina plays the lead! Tifffany Ramos!
and finally...

sports guy does it again. read his take on the karate kid trilogy. man is a genius. a truly funny genius. hai!
